Philodendron / Pothos — toxicity in dogs and cats
Call your vetApplies to: dogs and cats.
Overview
Philodendron and pothos contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that cause immediate oral irritation when chewed. Pets may drool heavily, paw at the mouth, and resist eating due to pain. Most cases are localized to the mouth and throat, but swelling can be more severe in some animals. Differentiate this from true lily kidney toxicity, which involves a different plant group and risk profile.
