Overview
Plain dextromethorphan products are not “safe by default” for pets — concentration, alcohol content, sweeteners, and added ingredients (acetaminophen, antihistamines, decongestants) change risk dramatically. Never dose from internet charts.
Symptoms
Sedation, agitation, wobbliness, vomiting
Typical onset
30 minutes–6 hours
Formulations
Liquids may contain xylitol (important for dogs).
What to do
